Christmas is our favorite time of year and South Georgia does not disappoint when it comes to celebrating the holiday season. Enjoy ice skating, giant Christmas trees and last-minute shopping with this #VeryValdosta itinerary for Dec. 20-22.
Welcome to Valdosta! You have arrived in the heart of South Georgia. With more than 4,000 hotel rooms to choose from, there are accommodations for every budget. For this trip, we suggest the Fairview Inn Bed and Breakfast. This quaint B&B located in one of Valdosta’s oldest residential neighborhoods has five unique guest rooms with private bathrooms. Ask for the patriot room for a red, white and blue-themed experience.
It’s time to explore downtown Valdosta with dinner and ice skating. Grab a pre-skate drink and appetizer at 306 North. This farm-to-table restaurant is a blend of Southern sophistication with classic comfort. The Southern sampler with house-made pork skins, Sunset Farms smoked pork sausage, deviled eggs and 306 pimento cheese pairs well with their expertly made cocktails. Lucky for you, every night between 5-7 p.m. is happy hour!
It’s now time to be whisked off to an icy wonderland for #VeryValdosta ice skating. Okay, the ice might be fake but the fun is very real. Practice your best Nancy Kerrigan spins and leaps while sipping on delicious hot chocolate from Red Owl Coffee Company. Skates are included in the admission price so feel free to leave yours at home.
After working up a sweat, you are ready for a great meal. Walk over to The Bistro Restaurant & Bar for amazing food and a large selection of local craft beers and gourmet wine from all over the world. If you are a seafood lover, order the grilled diver scallops that were featured in Southern Living Magazine!
Want to continue the fun after dinner, see our #VeryValdosta calendar of nightlife events.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and Fairview Inn’s owners, Irvin and Linda, serve one of the best breakfasts in the region. Past guests have raved about the blackberry French toast casserole and made-to-order options.
It’s time to shop ‘til you drop! Start the morning at the Hahira Farmer’s Market. This weekly open-air market features local farms, artisanal vendors and boutiques. Continue your shopping through main street Hahira at stores like The Looking Glass, Sissie's Jewels & Treasures or Sew Blessed Quilting. For a mid-day break, grab lunch at Church Street Cafe. You will be dreaming about their decadent sea salt caramel cheesecake long after you leave.
This afternoon, things are about to get a bit wild! Head to Wild Adventures Theme Park for a fun #VeryValdosta Christmas experience. Enjoy thrilling rides, including breathtaking roller coasters, observe rare and exotic animals, such as the Siberian Lynx, or enjoy 18 holes at the mini-golf course. Temps are in the 70s here!
At sunset, the fun really begins as the park is lit up with more than a million Christmas lights, including the largest animated tree in South Georgia! No Christmas experience would be complete without a visit from Santa, snow-like showers and bonding over a bonfire with s’mores. If you get hungry at the park, Wild Adventures has food ranging from BBQ to burgers.
After waking up and enjoying another wonderful breakfast at your B&B, grab your walking shoes and head to Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area. This 10,000-acre property stuns visitors with its expanse of swamps, wetlands and cypress trees. Nature lovers love the sightings of wildlife such as alligators. Climb to the top of the 54-foot watchtower for amazing morning views.
After checking out of your B&B, stop by Big Nick’s to take home great barbeque in addition to all of your wonderful memories and souvenirs from your South Georgia getaway. We hope to see you again soon!
